Forum software
Oh boy, am I going to regret asking this.
I'm looking for a web application. In particular, I'm looking for web forum software which:
- has a good security track record. I know no software is 100% secure (fuck off, DJB), but I don't want to use phpBB,
- is simple enough for a numpty like myself to configure and maintain,
- and finally, either offers some kind of gallery functionality, or ideally integrates with Gallery.
Geeklog looks promising, but I'm a bit confused as to whether I should be using version 1 or version 2. PHP-Nuke looks like it does what I want, but I'm not convinced about its security record particularly. Any other recommendations are welcome!
Clarifications:
- Registration needs to be moderated by the administrator of the site, not automatic.
- Image upload to the gallery part of the site, however it's implemented, needs to be available to all registered users and nobody else.

I don't know about miniBB from the security standpoint, but in terms of integrating with other things it's a snap. I integrated it with a site in about two hours (and spent another two tweaking the stylesheet) -- http://subtitled-japan.com/forums/ -- so I'm thinking perhaps you could tie that in with gallery.sourceforge.net
I don't think minibb has moderated registration, but it's such a simple system that it shouldn't be an issue (and if gallery has moderated registration--I forget--you could just make minibb use that).

Thanks for that; I was looking for something gallery plugged into, not the other way round, but actually since gallery is likely to be the main focus of the site I may just plug something like that into it. The shared auth looks simple enough. Thanks!

As for Geeklog: Since Geeklog 2 is pretty much only in a proof-of-concept state the decision should be easy. Don't expect GL 2 anytime soon ...

Dirk, thanks for the tipoff. If I go back to GL I'll stick with 1.x!

Look at Drupal (http://drupal.org/). You can have admin moderation (or people in a moderator role, so it's not just one person), upload pictures (gallery.menalto.com uses drupal), and other CMS goodness.

If you have an OpenID, you can use it to sign in here. Note that Livejournal users can enter the URL of their journal here, and things should work. Let me know of any bugs, this is new!
